NDIS

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding and support to Australians living with permanent and significant disability. It is based on the principle that people with disability deserve the same opportunities as all Australians to realise their potential.

The NDIS funds reasonable and necessary supports that help participants pursue their goals, live independently, and participate in their community. As an NDIS registered provider, Eternity Care can deliver funded supports directly from your NDIS plan.

We believe – as the NDIS intends – that it is your right to choose who supports you. That’s why we put you at the centre of every decision about your care.

Daily Activities

Support with personal care, self-management, and daily living tasks to build independence.

Social Participation

Community access, social activities, and building relationships and social skills.

Home & Living

Supported independent living, home modifications, and residential supports.

Health & Wellbeing

Therapeutic supports, nursing care, and allied health services funded through your plan.

Learning & Work

Supports for education, employment, and developing skills for greater independence.

Support Coordination

Help connecting with providers and making the most of your NDIS plan funding.

The Three NDIS Support Budgets

Your NDIS plan is divided into three broad budget areas. Understanding these helps you use your funding effectively.

Budget 1

Core Supports

Funding for everyday activities  personal care, community access, daily tasks, consumables, and short-term accommodation. This is the most flexible budget area.

Budget 2

Capacity Building

Supports that help you develop skills and independence — support coordination, therapy, employment support, and improved health & wellbeing.

Budget 3

Capital Supports

Funding for higher-cost items — assistive technology, home modifications, and specialist disability accommodation (SDA). These funds can only be spent within this category.

Who Can Access the NDIS?

The NDIS is available to Australians who meet the criteria below. If you’re unsure, our team can help determine your eligibility at no charge.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

You may be eligible for the NDIS if you meet all of the following criteria:

Residency Status

Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a Protected Special Category Visa currently living in Australia.

Age Requirement

You must be under 65 years of age at the time of your first NDIS application. Existing participants continue receiving support after 65.

Permanent Disability

You have a permanent and significant disability caused by an intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psychosocial impairment.

Support Needs

Your disability significantly affects your ability to participate in daily activities, and you require support from another person or specialist equipment.

Lifelong Impact

The disability is likely to be lifelong or has been present since birth, or early in life - meaning it won't resolve with standard medical treatment.

Lives in Australia

You must currently be living in an area where the NDIS is available (the NDIS is now available in all states and territories across Australia).

Your Three NDIS Plan Management Options

The NDIS gives you choice and control over how your plan is managed. Eternity Care works with all three management options.

Agency Managed

The NDIA manages your funding directly. You can only use NDIS-registered providers like Eternity Care — but it means less administrative burden for you.

  • ✓ Less paperwork for you
  • ✓ Provider invoices NDIA directly
  • ✓ Registered providers only
  • ✓ Great for those who prefer simplicity

Plan Managed

A registered Plan Manager handles your NDIS finances and pays providers on your behalf. More flexibility — use both registered and non-registered providers.

  • ✓ Use registered & unregistered providers
  • ✓ Plan Manager handles invoices
  • ✓ Monthly statements for visibility
  • ✓ Maximum flexibility with support

Self Managed

You manage your own NDIS funding — receiving money directly, paying providers yourself, and claiming reimbursements. Maximum flexibility and control.

  • ✓ Full choice of any provider
  • ✓ Maximum control over spending
  • ✓ Requires record keeping
  • ✓ Best for experienced participants
Getting Started

How to Access the NDIS

Navigating the NDIS for the first time can feel overwhelming — but our team is here to guide you through every step. Here’s how the process typically works:

1

Check Your Eligibility

Review the NDIS eligibility criteria above. If you believe you qualify, call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or contact our team — we’ll help you assess your eligibility for free.

2

Submit an Access Request

Complete an NDIS Access Request Form. You’ll need evidence of your disability from a treating doctor, specialist, or allied health professional.

3

NDIS Planning Meeting

If approved, you’ll have a planning meeting with an NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to discuss your goals and what funding you need.

4

Receive Your NDIS Plan

Your approved plan outlines your funding across each support category. You then choose registered providers — like Eternity Care — to deliver those supports.

5

Choose Eternity Care

Contact our team to discuss your plan, set up a service agreement, and begin your personalised care journey.

Common NDIS Questions

An NDIS planning meeting is a conversation with an NDIA planner or Local Area Coordinator about your life, goals, and the supports you need. The outcome is your personalised NDIS plan with a funding budget.

Absolutely. The NDIS is built on the principle of choice and control. You have the right to change providers at any time — including switching to Eternity Care. Our team can help manage this transition smoothly.

After submitting your access request, the NDIA has 21 days to make a decision. However, the full process — from application to having a plan in place — typically takes 2–4 months.

If your access request is declined, you have the right to request an internal review and, if still declined, an external review through the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART).

Yes. Our team is here to guide you through the eligibility check, help you gather the right documentation, and explain what supports to include in your plan. Contact us for a free consultation.
